The Rogers Cup presented by National Bank is a prestigious professional tennis tournament organized by Tennis Canada. Every year, Montreal and Toronto share the task of hosting, in alternation, the best men's and women's players in the world. Furthermore, the two Canadian tournaments are now "virtually combined" which means they are played at the same time, during the same week. So, from August 4-13, 2012 the women will be in Montreal while the men will play in Toronto. Moving the tournaments to the same week makes them stronger and allows Tennis Canada to keep an ideal week on the tennis calendar to ensure that the top players will utilize the events in Montreal and Toronto to prepare for the U.S. Open, the final Grand Slam of the season.

The impressive list of past champions for this Canadian stop on the professional tennis circuit bear such legendary names as Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Martina Hingis, Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters and defending champion Serena Williams.
